Good for maintenance, stress relief, self-development and work on specific problems or health issues (e.g. anxiety/depression, bereavement, separation, divorce, sleep problems, fatigue, restlessness, headache/migraine, IBS, indigestion, sinusitis, musculoskeletal aches and pains, arthritis, asthma etc.). Regular (and very enjoyable!) one hour sessions (initial commitment is to six at weekly intervals) aim to bring you into your body and make you more alive to the subtle signals it gives - meaning that you can live more in tune with natural cycles of activity and rest. This has obvious implications for health - you are less likely to over-do things but you can commit your energy to what you do - and when you rest, you are really able to rest properly! It also has implications on your personality; when things flow more spontaneously, you can be yourself and really shine! Founder Gerda Boyesen (1922-2005) was a physiotherapist and psychologist who integrated Eastern concepts of body energy and her own understanding of the mind-body connection, particularly the function of the gut. A stethescope is often used to monitor the gut sounds (peristalsis) for real-time feedback and sessions evolve like an ongoing conversation. Most people are surprised by how gentle the work is - though the range of techniques used mean that every session is different and the touch can range from very subtle to deep/vigorous. |
